Astrology shows the universe manifesting through the various energy layers and dimensions of mind. Our solar system's planetary bodies are different aspects of the collective consciousness. Astrology provides you with awareness of your energies, and with this level of clarity, your soul can lead you in a more obstacle-free direction towards where you are supposed to go in this life, knowing what its dealing with in terms of emotional, intellectual, reactionary and overall behavioural patterns and energies.

Vedic astrology has an edge when it comes to applying and understanding the Chakra system, the Lunar nodes, and the subconscious / lunar realm overall etc. It has been around since ancient times, and was originally harmoniously tied to the tropical grid. The sidereal lunar-mansions (Nakshaktras) are sidereal in nature, and should stay that way. Therefore your "Mahadasha" (major time-period) life cycles are to be calculated based on sidereal principles.
